The Visit
This is a beautifully done Christmas book! The classic Christmas poem, The Night Before Christmas, was written by Clement Clarke Moore in 1822. He created it for his daughter, and so, here, we get to go behind the poem as told by the great-great-granddaughter of Clement Clarke Moore, Dinghy Sharp. I liked how the poem was passed down through the generations of the Moore family just like in the old Oral Tradition, and I also liked seeing what inspired the poem. Learning a bit about sugarplums, for example, and other terms and events from the poem was special. But most importantly, I treasured the gorgeous illustrations that helped set the Christmas mood and made me want to cozy up with a cup of tea.
The gem of this book, though, might be near the end of the tale. At the end you can read the poem, The Night Before Christmas, in Moore's own lovely handwriting. It added something special to an already special book. I would highly recommend this book to people of all ages. It would truly make a great Christmas tradition every year to read alongside, The Night Before Christmas.
